advice for lucy

the internet offers a wide array of info. sometimes it's gold-covered wisdom, or hilarious memes that make your day, or occasional drama, or most of the time, merely pure sh*t. but one day, i came across this interesting piece of article. even the title is a big head-turner (or in my case, a damn fast link-clicking): "Why Generation Y Yuppies Are Unhappy?"
did you just fast-click that one, too? if you're between 25 to early 30's, most probably you would.

anyways, my most favorite part is "the advice." i like it so much i need to rewrite it here. maybe one day i'd randomly browse this blog and one way or the other, stumble upon the post and be inspired all over again.

"Here’s my advice for Lucy:

1) Stay wildly ambitious.  The current world is bubbling with opportunity for an ambitious person to find flowery, fulfilling success. The specific direction may be unclear, but it’ll work itself out—just dive in somewhere.

2) Stop thinking that you’re special.  The fact is, right now, you’re not special.  You’re another completely inexperienced young person who doesn’t have all that much to offer yet. You can become special by working really hard for a long time.

3) Ignore everyone else. Other people’s grass seeming greener is no new concept, but in today’s image crafting world, other people’s grass looks like a glorious meadow. The truth is that everyone else is just as indecisive, self-doubting, and frustrated as you are, and if you just do your thing, you’ll never have any reason to envy others."

PS: i think the problem (and the advice) could apply for marriage as well. hari gini tingkat perceraian makin tinggi, bukan? dan yang baru nikah seumur jagung udah cerai juga somewhat common. stop thinking your love life and or marriage should be so special it deserves an FTV; work on it! work really hard. for a long time.
